Things to know when taking the vaporetto

Taking the vaporetto with children

In Venice, the islands, and the mainland, children up to 5 years old are exempt from paying for a ticket. From the age of 6, they must have a travel document just like adults. Children may only travel if accompanied by an adult.
Strollers can be brought on board free of charge, but only one per passenger, and with the obligation to fold them to reduce the load.

The transport of animals on board the Vaporetto is free for one animal per passenger under the following conditions:

– Guide dogs equipped with a muzzle according to current regulations.
– Dogs must be on a leash or carried, and equipped with a muzzle, as required by current regulations.
– Other small animals (cats, birds, etc.) must be kept in cages or other small containers where the sum of the three dimensions does not exceed 120 cm.

– Small dogs, especially lap dogs, as long as they are muzzled, as required by current regulations.

Crew members (sailors and captains) may limit access to animals on board if the transport itself endangers the safety of passengers.
