Waterbus lines for Torcello: how to get there from Venice city center and ticket purchase tips
The island of Torcello can only be reached by waterbus (vaporetto) or water taxi. In the case of the waterbus, the choice of line depends on your departure point in Venice. In any case, you almost always have to reach Burano first, from where you take Line 9 to Torcello. Only early in the morning until 8:40 AM and every evening until 10:25 PM is there a direct line to Torcello from Venice departing from Fondamente Nove: Line 12 in 38 minutes.
• From Venice to Torcello: only from 4:20 AM to 8:40 AM and from 5:40 PM to 10:25 PM, Line 12 also stops at Torcello (but some trips stop at Torcello only upon request of the passengers to the crew or by booking by phone*).
Outside these morning and evening hours, to reach Torcello you must first go to Burano with other waterbus lines and then take Line 9.
• From Burano to Torcello: during the day, direct Line 9 to Torcello is active from 9:30 AM (last outbound trip at 5:45 PM). Early morning from 5:00 AM and in the evening from 6:25 PM, Line 12 goes direct to Torcello (last trip at 12:10 AM; but some trips stop at Torcello only upon request of the passengers to the crew or by booking by phone*).
At night, there is only one trip of Line NLN at 3:48 AM with a stop on request to the crew at Torcello.
• From Torcello to Venice: only from 5:03 AM to 9:00 AM and from 6:30 PM to 12:15 AM, Line 12 goes to Venice Fondamente Nove (but some trips stop at Torcello only upon request of the passengers to the crew or by booking by phone*).
Outside these morning and evening hours, to reach Venice you must first go to Burano with other waterbus lines.

• From Piazzale Roma: Line 3 fast and direct to Murano (last trip at 6:21 PM), get off at the Murano Faro stop, and change to line 12 for Burano from the Murano Faro A pier (last trip at 10:34 PM). Then Line 9 to Torcello in 5 minutes.
N.B. Until 8:40 AM and from 5:40 PM, Line 12 also stops at Torcello.
• From the Station (Stazione): Line 3 fast and direct to Murano (last trip at 6:25 PM), get off at the Murano Faro stop, and change to line 12 for Torcello from the Murano Faro A pier (last trip at 10:34 PM). Then Line 9 to Torcello in 5 minutes.
N.B. Until 8:40 AM and from 5:40 PM, Line 12 also stops at Torcello.
• From Piazza San Marco: Line 14 from San Marco San Zaccaria A pier arriving at Burano C pier (from 8:15 AM; last trip at 5:15 PM). Then Line 9 to Torcello in 5 minutes.

The travel time varies according to the departure point, but calculate an average of about one hour and 15 minutes of navigation plus waiting times.
Which waterbus line goes to Torcello from Venice?
First, you need to go to Burano with the following lines: Line 14 from San Marco San Zaccaria A pier; Line 12 from Fondamente Nove A pier. Then take Line 9 from Burano to Torcello. In the early morning and evening, Line 12 departing from Fondamente Nove A pier also stops at Torcello (sometimes on request).
At night, you can reach Torcello only from Fondamente Nove C pier with the NLN Line from 11:20 PM to 1:55 AM (stop on request).
Can I use a 75-minute ticket to go to Torcello from Venice?
From Burano to Torcello takes only 5 minutes. However, to reach Burano, you must consider these routes. From Fondamente Nove it takes 43 minutes. From Punta Sabbioni it takes 30 minutes; from Treporti it takes 15 minutes. From these departures, the 75-minute ticket is fine.
But from Piazza San Marco to Burano it takes 65 minutes, so with the waiting times and the trip to Torcello, a 24-hour ticket is mandatory. Also, from Piazzale Roma and the Station, the 75-minute ticket is not recommended; a 24-hour one is better given the travel time, transfers, and waits. At night from Fondamente Nove, the 75-minute ticket is sufficient.
Can I arrive at Torcello from Venice at night?
Yes. Only from the Fondamente Nove C pier with the NLN Line from 11:20 PM to 1:55 AM (stop on request).

• To San Michele (Cemetery): Line 12 in the morning and evening from Torcello; during the day Line 12 from Burano (reachable with Line 9). Stop at Fondamente Nove, then Line 4.1/4.2 towards Murano.
• To Pellestrina and Chioggia: Reach Lido (Line 14), then Line 11 (bus + ferry that carries buses and cars + waterbus that carries motorbikes and bikes).
